ABOUT THE SHOW
Luke De Vincentis began lighting up his parents' home in Lilydale at the age of 12 out of his passion for both electronics and Christmas. He discovered that by combining these two passions, he could create a display that provided joy for many families during the Christmas season. The first display back in 1992 consisted of just 100 lights strung across the front gutter of his parents' home. As each year passed, the display grew in size until in 1998 Luke switched to computer control for the display for the first time. The very first controller simply had 8 channels and was controlled by a basic software program on a computer that allowed the channels to be turned on and off in different combinations.
Two years later, Luke discovered the “Dasher” software program which revolutionised computer controlled lighting and was the first Christmas lighting control software available for home users. Luke was able to utilise his electronics background to build several custom made hardware control boxes that allowed the lights in his display to be controlled via the software. This made for spectacular displays that could make the lights “dance“ in time with the music. By 2000, the display consisted of approximately 10,000 lights. The display was a huge success with visitors from all over Victoria coming to see one of only a handful of computer controlled displays in the country at that time. Over the following two years, more control boxes were built increasing the number of lights to over 15,000.
In 2006, the Lights Display was moved from his parents' home to the LMC property. In 2007, in partnership with Life Ministry Church, the number of lights grew to nearly 25,000 and has only increased each year since then.
